Nova PlasmaGo launch: our smallest hair dryer with plasma
Nova PlasmaGo is now on sale: 310 grams, a 110,000 rpm BLDC motor, plasma and a quiet 59 dB. Three colors. I’ll tell you how it came about.
It’s here! Nova PlasmaGo, our smallest hair dryer with plasma technology, is now on sale. It’s the third hair dryer in the SkinVibe family and the first one we designed with travel in mind from the very start.
Where did the idea come from? From frustration. When I was writing my guide to travel hair dryers, I worked out that a typical “travel” model weighs between 470 and 513 grams, is noisy and barely dries your hair. The category had been standing still for years: small meant worse. We decided it didn’t have to be that way.
What Nova PlasmaGo can do
Nova weighs 310 grams. That’s less than any hair dryer we have made so far (our flagship Aurea weighs 410 grams), and clearly less than typical travel models. In practice: you pack it in your toiletry bag and stop thinking about it.
What matters most, though, is what we didn’t give up for that weight. Inside there’s a brushless BLDC motor running at 110,000 rpm with a power draw of just 1100 W, the same type of drive as in our flagship Aurea. Then there’s plasma: 1 billion positive and negative ions per cubic centimeter, which neutralize static charges, so hair is smoother and doesn’t get static after drying. And quiet: 59 decibels, less than an ordinary conversation.
Four temperature modes (warm, hot, cold and alternating hot-cold), shown by the color of the logo on the LCD screen, two airflow settings, a touch sensor and a memory for the last mode. A microprocessor constantly monitors the air temperature to protect hair from overheating. In the box you’ll find a magnetic concentrator nozzle and a pouch for everything, and the cord is a full 2.7 meters long, because the outlet in a hotel is never where the mirror is.
Price, colors and availability
Nova PlasmaGo is available right away in three colors: Blue Fog, Eggplant and Graphite. The product card below shows the current price. If you’re wondering whether you need a travel hair dryer at all, I break the category down piece by piece, and on the comparison page I’ve set Nova side by side with Aurea and Libra.
Small doesn’t have to mean weaker. Nova is the best proof of that we could build. I describe how Nova compares with Aurea and Libra, and who each one is for, in my comparison Aurea, Libra or Nova.
